Canyoneering has enjoyed a tremendous surge in popularity over the past few years. Unfortunately, many of the people who are discovering this exciting sport remain unaware of the inherent risks and the complex technical skills required to enjoy it safely. The rope skills learned from rock climbing and rappelling are a good start, but will prove to be inefficient and sometimes dangerous in an aquatic or semi-aquatic canyon environment.

Rich created the American Canyoneering Association’s curriculums for recreational canyoneering, canyon rescue and professional canyoneering guides. The curriculum is designed to enhance safety, efficiency and enjoyment for canyoneers of all experience levels. The curriculum is offered only by ACA certified instructors through:

ART OF CANYONEERING
ART of Canyoneering is a six-day fast track workshop that covers material from the Technical Canyoneering and Advanced Canyoneering curriculums.

The American Canyoneering Association’s extremely popular Technical Canyoneering Course curriculum has set the standard by which all other canyoneering courses are judged. This course provides students with the anchor, rigging and problem-solving skills and techniques they need to become safe, efficient, self-reliant canyoneers.

Advanced Canyoneering Workshops build upon the skills and techniques presented in Technical Canyoneering. The curriculum consists of core topics that include advanced rigging and rope work, ascending and self-rescue, plus geography-specific topics like pothole escapes and swift water.

CANYON RESCUE TECHNICIAN
Canyon Rescue Technician is an ideal course for professional rescuers, Search and Rescue (SAR) team members, backcountry rangers and law enforcement officials who must access technical canyon terrain. The course provides students with highly-specialized skills and techniques for rescue in extreme canyoneering situations.
